How the driving theory test in Belgium is organised
The test contains 50 multiple choice questions. To succeed one must obtain at least 41/50 points: Each wrong or unanswered question will cost you 1 one point.
Unless the wrong answer is considered to be a very dangerous traffic offence of 3th of 4th degree; than you loose instantly 5 points. This means you are not allowed to make more than 1 major traffic offence. Because our very close location near Brussels we organise two kind of theory sessions; one for Dutch speaking learners and one French speaking learners and the English speaking learners are invited to chose to enrol in one of those two groups but will have an English recent theory book, a recent cd-rom with the latest official exam questions and additional remarks that you can not in your home language.
We provide the official program of 12 hours theory cours over no more than 2 consecutive Sudays (each time from 8am-2pm). The purpose is that learners study at their pace. There this way a whole week, from the 1st Sunday to the 2nd to review the whole tuition, to do the exercises and even to prepare the coming subjects.
After succeeding for your theory-examen
Succeeding in your theory test means that you undergo a eye test. If the driving test centre considers that your view is not sufficient you will have to visit an eye doctor of your choice to provide you a more thorough screening, and then decide under which conditions you will be allowed (or prohibited) to drive on Belgian public roads. Keep in mind that in Belgium the theory test is valid for 3. It is a good idea to make a copy of this form because if you apply for a learners licence you will have to fill it in and deliver it to the communal authorities of your city; if you on the other hand possess a foreign drivers licence from outside the European Union than you can immediately apply for your practical test without the mandatory 'training period' of 3 months. You can then apply to do a practical test without visiting a driving school or let us assist you in providing you a 2 hours lesson to show you where the driving test routes usually go and which are the standards they use for succeeding in parallel parking and the others maneuvers they might ask. If one would fail in Brussels or Wallonia twice you must follow at least 6 hours practical driving lessons before being allowed to access to more trials but this rule is not yet implemented in Flanders where we are located. Another difference that could save you a serious amount of money is that you do not need to doe the risk perception test in Flanders before having access to a practical driving slot - it is done the day of your practical driving test, at the start of the test and the result is not communicated to you until you finish the practical part of that test with the intension not to stress you if it is not successful (but even if you do not have a score of at least of 6/10 but your practical driving part is good enough you can be considered as succeeding. This is not possible in Brussels or Wallonia.
If failed for the theory-exam?
If it is the second failure in Brussels or Wallonia it will be mandatory each time to follow again 12u in an accredited driving school. If you do your theory test in Flanders it will be not required more than 1 time to do 12 hours course theory in an accredited driving school for the coming 3 years. But be aware that theory tests with a sworn translator are only held in big cities as Oostende, Gent and so on; inform you well before enrolling because some driving test centra are changing their way of proceedings due to corona-rules. Most centres will demand a deposit of 50 euros before enrolling you and the day of the theory test an additional 15 euros.
